Crayons Remakes

Today is the last day of August . And September brings a new month- as more kids go bake to school I thought I would share this project : 

What do you Do with old or Broken Crayons? 

You Make New Ones : 

  You will need a selection of crayons - Silicon mold ( candy /baking molds) , oven  

  • Take paper wrapper off crayons
  • Select & break up crayons to fit your molds
  • bake in silicon molds at 250 degrees -until melted
  • Let Cool & Pop out 

College Colors Day !

It's Show your  College Colors Day!!!!

I am celebrating this day  with a page from my Son's move in day at college & using College clip art .This Friday is the first football game of the season. Geaux Cajuns !!!

College Trail Mix

It's College Were your Colors Day & Trail Mix Day !!! I am celebrating both with a Trail Mix in my sons college colors : 

1  C  Dried Cranberries
1 C  semi Sweet chocolate chips
1  C   white Chocolate chips 
1 C     raisins 
1  C    pecans ( walnuts or pecans ) 

Mix up in a large bowl. I but them in bags decorated in school colors for parties & tail gating .

Crock pot Chili Con Queso Cheese Dip

We are getting ready for Football Season here ! Here's an easy game day dip - Perfect for that small crockpot you have stored in the cabinet.   Lisa 

    Chili Corn Queso Cheese Dip 

1lb Ground meat
1/2  C chopped Onion
1 C Velveeta Cheese ( Cubed)
10 oz can diced tomatoes /green chilies
1  can evaporated milk
2 T  chili  powder 

Tortilla Chips 

Brown ground meat (drain) . Place it and  all other ingredients in a slow cooker . Heat for 2-3 hours until all is melted. 

Serve with Tortilla Chips 

Marshmallow M & M Bars

 Happy Toasted Marshmallow Day !!

2 sticks of Butter(softened)
2 1/2  C   Flour
1 C brown sugar
1 C white sugar
3 Eggs
2 t vanilla
2 t baking soda
1 t   salt
1 C  miniature  M&M
24   large marshmallows

Preheat oven to 350 - grease a 9 X 13 baking pan.

In a bowl Mix together butter & sugar add Eggs and Mix. In a separate bowl Mix dry ingredients  and Add to other Mixture -add M&M ..
In pan add 3/4 of Mixture add Marshmallows on top -Scoop by teaspoon rest of dough  in between Marshmallow .   Bake about 25 minutes.

Chicken Chop Suey

 Chicken Chop Suey 


  • In a large resealable plastic bag, combine soy sauce and brown sugar; add the chicken. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
  • 1 lb Chicken breast
  • 3 T  soy sauce
  • 1 T brown sugar 

  • Next step:

  • 2 T canola Oil
  • 3  onions (thinly sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced) 
  • 6 celery sliced in 1/2 piece slices
  • 1/2 lb sliced mushroom
  • 1 large green pepper (sliced) 

  • In a large nonstick skillet or wok, stir-fry onions and garlic in oil until tender. Remove with a slotted spoon to a bowl. Add celery, mushrooms and green pepper to skillet; stir-fry 3-4 minutes or until crisp-tender. Remove with slotted spoon to bowl. Add chicken and marinade to skillet; stir-fry for 5-7 minutes or until chicken is no long pink. Return vegetables to skillet.

  • Next step : 
  • 4 1/2 T corn starch
  • 1 C  water 
  • 1 can of bean sprouts ( fresh)
  • salt & pepper to taste 
  • Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into chicken mixture. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Add the bean sprouts, salt and pepper; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until heated through. Serve over rice if desired.

Flower Aperture Card

The theme is #10  Aperture Cards :  What's that you say well I had to look it up -An aperture card is a type of punched card with a cut-out window into which a chip of microfilm is mounted. 

So off to may craft table and this is my first one : 

It's a Thank You card with a circle window from a punch with a yellow flower in the window. Which is attached to the  card. .

Easy Cherry Turnover

 I love turnovers  ! I buy them when I see them in bakery cases and of course at Arby's  fast food. But they can be made easily at home in any flavor :

1 refrigerated pie crust  (softened) 

1 C  of Pie filling 
1/4 C  Chopped  pecans

1  T    sugar 
1/4 t   ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 425 . Spray cookie sheet. 

Cut Pie Dough into 6 pieces. Place on cookie sheets  Mix pie filling & nuts together.  and place spoonfuls of mixture on each piece. Top with another wedge and Seal edges by pressing edged with a fork .Bake about 12-14 minutes until brown  while warm sprinkle with cinnamon or sugar. 

Instead of Pie crust you can use thawed  Puff Pasty or Crescent Rolls as an easy dough. You can also omit  Pecans and use Raisins.

Chocolate Coffee Pot de creme

1/2 package of Chocolate chips (best you can find)
4   Eggs
2/3  C    Heavy Cream
1/4  C    Strong coffee (espresso/dark roast)
2  T   vanilla extract

Add Chips & Eggs to blender - blend until chips are broken down.  Turn to  low speed  add  heated  Cream (very hot) and then Coffee. Add vanilla and turn to High blend until chips melted. Pour into ramekins and let set up in refrigerator overnight,  Serve with fresh berries & whipped cream.

Homemade Dog Biscuits

Easy Dog Biscuits :
2 C   Flour  (you can use white or whole wheat)
1/2 C  Smooth Peanut Butter
2    Eggs
1/4 C  Water
Mix together and Add water until it’s easy to roll out and cut with cookie cutter ( Cut this pizza cutter) . Or drop by the spoonful.  Bake at  350 for about 20 minutes.

Homemade Cherry Popsicle Your way

Take out those Popsicle  molds again it's National Cherry Popsicle Day !

2 C   Frozen cherries
1  C    Water
1-2 t   Sugar/ honey

In a blender mix all the ingredients together. Pour into the molds and Freeze (about 4 hours ) 

* You can add Lemon aid instead of water.  Or you can Add  Pineapple juice /Pineapple chunks  or watermelon in your Cherry Mix for a different flavor.  Be Creative make it your own. Lisa

Cajun Cake Recipe

It's Saturday and I am baking a cake for tomorrow - a Cajun Cake

Cake !  Recipe below :

Cake  Mix :

2 C Cake Flour
1 1/2 C  Sugar
1 1/4 t soda
1/8 t salt
2 Eggs 
1    15oz Crushed pineapple 

Preheat oven to 350 and grease/flour a 9x 13  baking pan. Mix the batter and pour in pan . Bake for 30 minutes. 

Icing for the Cake :

1 C Sugar
1/2 C Butter
1   6oz can evaporated milk
1 C   Coconut flakes
!   C   chopped pecans 

Combine sugar,butter and milk in a sauce pan. Cook until it come to a boil then wait 5 minutes and take off stove, Add pecan and Coconut and Mix. Pour over cake while still warm.

Peach Pie with Streusel Topping

Crust : 

1    9 inch Frozen Pie Crust  ( Thawed)

Filling for Pie :

1/2 C powdered Sugar
1/3 C AP Flour
1/2 t  ground  Cinnamon
4  C sliced peeled Peaches 

Streusel :

3/4 C AP Flour
1/2 C   Brown Sugar
1/2 t   ground  Cinnamon
1/3 C   cold   Butter

  • Heat oven to 375°F. 
  • In large bowl, mix powdered sugar, 1/3 cup flour and the cinnamon. Gently stir in peaches until coated. Spoon into crust-lined pie plate.
  • In medium bowl, mix 3/4 cup flour, the brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter, using pastry blender (or fork or pulling 2 table knives through mixture in opposite directions), until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over filling.
  • Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until topping is golden brown. Cover edge of crust with foil after 15 or 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning.

Easy Sponge Cake

Easy Sponge  Cake  Recipe : 

Sponge cake is a cake based on flour, sugar, butter and eggs, and is sometimes leavened with baking powder. It has a firm yet well-aerated structure, similar to a sea sponge.


6 large Eggs (Room temperature)
1 C  Sugar
1 C    AP  flour
1/2 t    baking powder

  • Directions: 

Preheat oven to 350. Line bottom of cake pans with  parchment paper. 

Beat  the eggs with electric mixer add 1 C sugar gradually and mix until fluffy (8-10 minutes) Mix together flower & baking powder and gradually fold into Egg mixture. Mix until all the flour is incorporated into the mixture .
Divide between 2 cake pan and bake until golden brown ( 23-28 minutes)

 Even though they have similar ingredients, small changes make a big difference between foam and butter cakes. ... They get their light, fluffy texture from air beaten into egg whites, and, as a bonus, they're not as unhealthy as other types of cake.

Slice Pecan Torte Bars

Pecan Slice Torte 

Crust :
1 C flour
1/2 C butter
Mix together - and press into a butter 9 x 9 square pan. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.

Filling :
2 Eggs / slightly beaten
1 1/2 C brown sugar
3/4 C Coconut
1 C  Nuts ?chopped
2 T flour
1/4 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1 t vanilla

Mix this together while crust is baking. Pour into crust and Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Take out and Cool then add icing.

Icing :
2 T butter
1 1/2 C powdered sugar
3 T  orange juice
1 T lemon juice
1/2 C finely chopped pecans  ( for topping)

Mix together and spread over torte . Top with chopped Pecans

Spumoni Ice Cream Cake

Spumone (from spuma or "foam"), plural spumoni, is a molded gelato made with layers of different colors and flavors, usually containing candied fruits and nuts. Typically, it is of three flavors, with a fruit/nut layer between them. The ice cream layers are often mixed with whipped cream.

Recipe :

3 C    pistachio ice cream /soften
3 C strawberry ice cream / soften
3 C  chocolate ice cream / soften
15 chocolate wafers /crushed 

Directions :

Line a Loaf pan with plastic wrap with extra on outside of pan.Line bottom with crushed Chocolate wafers( base)
 Spread each layer of ice cream in lined pan and let the ice cream firm up between each layers (30 minutes) ..
 Return to freezer for 8 hours . When ready to serve -Lift out and slice . 

Difference between  ice cream and spumoni?

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Every Southern family has a favorite recipe today's recipe -Celebrates chocolate & bourbon . Enjoy 

One 9 in Pie Crust

3/4 C Chocolate Chips
1 1/4 C pecan halves
1/3 C bourbon
1 C brown sugar (packed)
2 T flour
1 T margarine (soften)
1 C dark corn syrup
3 Eggs (beaten)
1/4 t salt

Toss pecans in Bourbon let sit. Mix brown sugar ,flour beat in margarine, Mix in corn syrup,eggs and salt. Then add in Pecan and chocolate
chips. Pour into shell Cover edges with foil to prevent burning. b Bake at 325 degrees for about 40- 45 minutes, Take off foil in the last 15 minutes of baking.

Slow Cooked Bacon Jam

1 1/2 lb Bacon cut in 1 inch pieces

3 cloves of garlic (peeled & mashed)
1/2 C dark brown sugar
3/4 C brewed coffee
2 onions (diced fine)
1/2 C Cider vinager
1/4 C maple syrup 

 In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium-high, stirring occasionally, until fat is rendered and bacon is lightly browned, about 20 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels to drain. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon fat from skillet (reserve for another use); add onions and garlic, and cook until onions are translucent, about 6 minutes. Add vinegar, brown sugar, maple syrup, and coffee and bring to a boil, stirring and scraping up browned bits from skillet with a wooden spoon, about 2 minutes. Add bacon and stir to combine.

Transfer mixture to a 6-quart slow cooker and cook on high, uncovered, until liquid is syrupy, 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Transfer to a food processor; pulse until coarsely chopped. Let cool, then refrigerate in airtight containers, up to 4 weeks.

Egg and Sausage Oven Bake

 Egg and Sausage Breakfast Dish:

Start overnight and Ready to bake in the morning for Brunch-

1lb cooked/drained Sausage
6 eggs slightly beaten
2 C Milk
1 t salt
1 t  dry mustard
2 slices of day old bread / crumbled
1 C grated Cheddar Cheese
2 T  chopped onion

Mix all ingredients in a 11x7x1 1/2 baking dish . Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.  Lisa

No Bake Ice Cream Pie

Quick & Easy Ice Cream Pie !  No Oven Needed : 

Perfect for the hot days of Summer or a Fun treat
 for the kids to make :

1 pursed Oreo cookie crust 
favorite flavors of ice cream ( set out and let soften)
Whipped topping (Cool Whip) 

Let ice cram set out so that you can spread into the pie shell . If you like you can do more than I flavor but put in freezer to harden between flavor, Put in Freezer and let harden. Spread Cool whip on top and decorate with Sprinkles or candy. 

* You can use whatever cookies you want by crushing them and adding 2 1/2 t melted butter to the cookies. Press into a pie pan.

 My Entry is Squares : using a Sizzix die called Square Set for moth cards.  Lisa 

  Card #1 is for Christmas -it's 4 squares in green ,with white punch flowers  on Christmas stripped card stock.  Oval tag with HoHo.  

 Card #2   is Happy Anniversary  on the oval tag. On top of  the same squares in green with white  punch flowers. On purple & matching floral card stock.

Vanilla Custard Day * Cream Puffs

Today recipe is Cream Puffs with Vanilla Custard- Happy Vanilla custard day ! 

Vanilla Custard : 

1 C Heavy Whipping Cream
1 C whole milk
1/4 C  Sugar
4 Egg Yolks
2 t vanilla extract
1 1/2 T  cornstarch

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Stir continuously for 5 minutes. Remove from heat when mixture is hot but not boiling.
  2. In a large heat resistant bowl, whisk together egg yolks, cornstarch, and sugar until well blended. Slowly pour hot cream mixture over egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent eggs from scrambling.
  3. Return custard mixture back to original sauce pan now set on low heat. Stir for 8-10 minutes or until custard has thickened. Do not bring to a boil as the custard will curdle. Serve warm and refrigerate any leftovers.

Cream Puffs 

1 C water
1 C flour
1/2 C shortening
4 Eggs  unbeaten
1/4 t  sal

Bring water ,shortening and salt to boil. Stir in flour and cook until forms a ball. Take off heat and Cool. Add eggs one at a time -beat end each egg. Drop by spoonful on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes- lower to 400 for 45 minutes

Granny's Rum Balls

 Happy Rum Day *

 today's recipe is for Granny Rum balls. Perfect for the up coming holiday but good at any time. 

  • 21/2 C Crushed vanilla wafers
  • 1 C Confectioner Sugar 
  • 1 C ground pecans
  • 2 T plus 2 t  of baking CoCoa
  • 1/4 C rum
  • 2 T water 

* additional cursed pecans ,sprinkles or sugar can be used to roll them in. 

Mix together wafer crumbs, pecans, confectioners' sugar and cocoa. Combine rum, honey and water; stir into crumb mixture. Shape into 1-in. balls. Roll in additional confectioners' sugar or wafer crumbs. Store in an airtight container.

My football player is colored in my son new college colors with pencils and markers.  The Stamp can be found at

Chicken with Lemon Sauce

         Lemon Chicken

Chicken : 

4 Chicken breast ( cleaned & Cut in half is needed & pound lightly)
1/2 C Cornstarch
1/2 t salt & pepper
1/4 C water
4 Egg yolk

3 C oil (for frying)
3 green onions -sliced for garnish.

Mix cornstarch,salt & pepper  in a bowl . Water & Egg yolk in another. Dip in dry than wet and fry until golden brown. Set aside.

Lemon Sauce for chicken :

11/2 C water
1/2 C lemon juice
31/2  T  brown sugar
3 T corstarch
3 T honey
3 T  instant bouillon granules

Mix together in a sauce pan and cook until thicken ( about 5 minutes) Pour over Chicken and garnish with green onions.      

Lemon Blossom Pie

     Lemon Blossom Pie
3 Egg yolks   ( keep the whites separate)
2  t   lemon rind
1/3 C lemon juice
4 T   cornstarch
1/4 t salt
11/2 C boiling water
2 T butter
1 8 in Baked Pie Shell

In a bowl mix-  Mix egg yolks,lemon juice & rind : Set aside. On the stove Mix Sugar,cornstarch ,salt   together add boiling water and Stir until thicken, Slowly stir in Egg mixture and cook 2 minutes more, Take off stove and add butter -Let Cool before poring into baked Pie Shell.

Meringue :
 Mix together Egg whites and salt . Beat until foamy add 6 T sugar and Beat until it hold a stiff peak. Spread over Pie and Bake at 400 until golden brown.

Magnolia Card * It's a Beauty

Today's featured card for Sparkle N Sprinkle  august challenge on Facebook - is a tribute to my home state. Magnolia only bloom for a short time and start to brown and die once taken off the tree. This lasting memory is a digital stamp called :

Colored with pastels this is placed on black & white card stock re mincing on old New Orleans iron fences.  Lisa
